Hard to say. The younger generation coming through are very computer savvy these days. We can naturally expect digital media like Youtube to get used more prominently.

Compare demise of Plymouth Brethren and Witchtower
by hamsterbait inthe plymouth brethren, had the same type of exclusivity as the witchtower, no worldly friends, practising shunning etc, they had sooo many teachings on making everyday life seem like everlasting death - you would think the witchtower babble and trash society was an offshoot.. they have now faded to a hardly noticable group, as their end time prophecies failed, and they were unable to substitute these with something more upbeat than "the satanic trinity" or forcing non believing relatives to eat at another table.. hb.

Not enough info is given to enable a proper comparison. Who the heck are the "Plymouth Brethren"?

Resolved to do Right? (Big puke alert)
by WTWizard inthe june 15 washtowel has an article about resolving to do what is right.
the preceding article had a subheading about fleeing from fornication, which merits a puke alert (yup, stifle that sex drive and stay away from anything that might make you sexually attracted to someone else).. this is the second study article, which has things to pursue.
paragraph 4 is a prime example.

Since the Bible is fairly explicit that Christians should onlyy marry "in the Lord" and they should not become "unevenly yoked with unbelievers", there is nothing scripturally wrong with teaching that Christians should only get romantically involved with another Christian. The real problem is that JW's do not think anyone else is a Christian except them. Only JW's consider themselves "true Christians", so even if a JW married a person who was not a JW but who still professed to be a dedicated Christian, that isn't enough for the WTS.
And WTWizard, please stop confusing the Watchtower Society with the FDS. The 'filthful and disgraceful slavebugger' as you keep calling them (ad nauseum) is NOT the Watchtower Society.

Someone's hurting. You need some squeezums. You're not getting enough love and affection in your life.
Even apostates can throw fiery coals on a trolls head.

If The Society REALLY Cared About Gas Prices They'd Implement Program Now!
by minimus inthey are full of sh*t!
if i were a practicing jehovah's witness, i'd seriously take the governing body's words to heart immediately.
since they don't want to add any further burdens on us, i would not "wait on jehovah (them)" but instead i'd follow the spirit of their timely words and cut out one more meeting night and save gas money!

Reporting preaching time is another obvious 'burden' that could be removed
by yadda yadda 2 inthe basic scriptural argument by the wts is that since the apostles 'reported' their experiences, it is correct to expect jw's to 'report' their preaching activity on a monthly form.
(there are other reasons given for reporting time ,eg, the claim that reporting time helps the elders gauge someones spiritual 'strength', etc.
since the scriptural record is that only experiences were reported back by the early christians, the society therefore only has justification for jw's to report their 'experiences' to each other, not to formerly report their actual time preaching.

The apostles went from door to door....
That's a highly debateable assertion. Have you read In Search of Christian Freedom by Ray Franz?

Why can the governing body perform a cost benefit analysis when...
by DT inthe dubs aren't supposed to?.
i remember being told that the book study was a necessary provision.
it was expected that the dubs would make whatever sacrifices were needed to attend.
-
yadda yadda 2
I agree. They may have opened some kind of Pandora's box with this, but only a small minority of thinking dubs, or dubs already on the edge, will notice.
Unity (conformity) trumps everything in the minds of the GB. They fear losing their place and their nation, just like the Jewish religious leaders in Jesus time did. The pharisees were prepared to sacrifice the Son of God himself for the sake of their privileged positions and status and a similar attitude exists with the GB. They will sacrifice anything to keep their precious 'unity' and so keep the statistics up there somewhere, including the sacrifice of doctrinal truth, love, justice, and mercy.

Shouldn't the Watchtower study be renamed the "congregation bible study"?
by yadda yadda 2 inwhy rename the "congregation book study" the "congregation bible study" (a broad, generic term that could be applied to all meetings really) when surely it would have been more appropriate to rename the "watchtower study" that?.
after all, the watchtower study is touted as a "bible study" by the whole congregation, right?
jw's consider the watchtower study as the main weekly study of the bible that they do as a congregation, right?

Why rename the "congregation book study" the "congregation bible study" (a broad, generic term that could be applied to all meetings really) when surely it would have been more appropriate to rename the "Watchtower study" that?
After all, the Watchtower Study is touted as a "bible study" by the whole congregation, right? JW's consider the Watchtower study as the main weekly study of the bible that they do as a congregation, right? And yet the 'home book study' is being renamed the 'congregation bible study'? Doesn't the Society boast that the purpose of the Watchtower magazine is to study the bible and don't they herald that this is first and foremost their concern as "bible students" - to study the bible!
Doesn't make sense. It implies that the book study is more biblically oriented than the Watchtower study. New ones will be thinking: "I guess the 'congregation bible study' must be more important than the 'Watchtower study' because the CBS is mainly studying the bible and the latter is mainly studying a magazine".
They surely missed a trick here. They should left the book study as the "congregation book study" and renamed the Watchtower study as the "congregation bible study".

"Congregation Bible Study" - Name Change probably money motivated
by Meeting Junkie No More inok, just to beat this topic to death, i think the real reason for the book study amalgamation is actually the name change to congregation bible study.. there's got to be a gazillion catholic, protestant, presbyterian, anglican, methodist, united etc.
churches that have alpha courses and bible study nights.
and some light bulb has gone off in brooklyn so that the so-called governing body has finally caught on that they are the only religion without an actual 'bible' study meeting.
-

Well, there is the 'home bible study' when a JW is studying with an interested person, and JW's are frequently encouraged to do their 'personal bible study', but that's not really what you meant.
